Our Practices

What we believe!

At Plow and Plate Farm we believe in sustainable farming practices that honor the land and provide our customers with the highest quality, nutrient-dense food possible. We grow our food as God intended, using regenerative farming practices that build soil health, raise tasty and nutrient dense produce, reduce our carbon footprint, and support local ecosystems.

Our commitment to sustainable farming starts with the soil as our entire existence relies on these top six inches of soil!  We use natural methods such as crop rotation, cover cropping, and composting to nourish our soil and support plant health.

We also believe in shortening food supply chains and strengthening food security. By growing our food locally and selling directly to our customers, we reduce the environmental impact of long-distance transportation and support local farmers and businesses. We also prioritize food security by growing a diverse range of crops and working to ensure that our customers have access to fresh, healthy food.  By building hoop houses we are able to extend our growing season to bring you nutrient dense food earlier and later in the growing season!

Our farming practices are rooted in a deep respect for the land, for the food we grow, and for the customers we serve. We are committed to providing each customer with the highest quality, nutrient-dense food possible, and we believe that our sustainable farming practices are the best way to achieve this goal.

Thank you for considering Plow and Plate Farm for your food choices! We look forward to sharing the fruits of our labor with you and your family.

Why do we farm this way?

We believe in the healing power of sustainable agriculture to not only heal the land but also people by producing healthy, nutrient-dense food that nourishes the body, environment, and soul! Our farming practices prioritize building healthy soil, promoting biodiversity, and reducing our carbon footprint to create a thriving ecosystem that supports both our community and the environment.

Sustainable farming practices start with the soil. We believe that healthy soil is the foundation of a healthy ecosystem, and we work hard to nourish our soil with natural methods such as crop rotation, cover cropping, and composting. These practices help to increase soil organic matter, improve soil structure, and promote the growth of beneficial insects and microorganisms. Healthy soil can help to reduce erosion, retain water, and provide nutrients to plants, leading to better crop yields and healthier pasture-raised meats.

In addition to promoting soil health, sustainable farming practices also prioritize biodiversity. By planting a diverse range of crops, we can support beneficial insects, pollinators, and other wildlife that play important roles in maintaining a healthy ecosystem. We also believe in preserving our local heritage breeds and using them to promote genetic diversity and the preservation of rare breeds.

Finally, sustainable farming practices are essential for reducing our carbon footprint and mitigating the impacts of climate change. By reducing our use of fossil fuels, promoting regenerative farming practices, and minimizing food waste, we can help to create a more sustainable and resilient food system.

We know that sustainable farming practices require hard work, dedication, and a deep commitment to the land. But we believe that the benefits of sustainable farming - healthy soil, biodiversity, and a sustainable food system - are worth the effort. We are proud to grow vegetables and pasture-raised meats using sustainable farming practices, and we invite you to taste the difference that these practices make.  We look forward to sharing our sustainably grown, nutrient-dense food with you and your family.
